I love good audio – and so do Podcast listeners! Check out the options below to figure out what works best for you.
Audio Option 1: Using the external mic on your computer + headphones (Not Recommended)
- Sound Quality: Just OK.
- Cost: minimal
You will need, at a minimum, a pair of headphones that connect to your computer (via Bluetooth, USB or 3.5mm jack) in order to eliminate audio-echo, if you choose to use your computer’s external mic.

Audio Option 2: Use a headset/microphone combo: (Recommended)
- Sound Quality: Good
- Cost: $25-100
You need a headset/mic combo that connects to your computer via USB or Bluetooth. If you don’t already have one – it’s a very useful piece of kit to own for private Zoom/video calls. (Apple Airpods are OK -but you’ll sound much better with a USB headset/mic combo)
Here’s a good one for only $25.00 on Amazon: https://bit.ly/USB_Headset
Audio Option 3: Use a USB Microphone with a built-in 3.5mm headphone jack: (Now we are talking!)
- Sound Quality: Excellent
- Cost: $150-$200
Since we are now living in the “Zoom era” – I would argue that a decent USB microphone is actually a very worthwhile investment – it will truly transform the way you sound on podcasts, Zoom/video and any other audio endeavors.
You will need a USB Microphone (with a 3.5mm headphone jack for zero-latency monitoring).
The “Blue Yeti” is a very popular option (if you can get hold of one!) Don’t forget you’ll need headphones too!

- Sound Quality: Studio Pro
