The Big IDEA; The Four Pillars of a Binding, Progressive Corporate Culture in 2020
A deliberate and thoughtful corporate culture exists as the bedrock for companies who are committed to the two most important things that fuel sustainable growth:
- Hiring the right people
- Retaining the right people
“The inventory, the value of your company, walks out the door every evening.” -Bill Gates
Every company needs a clearly defined mission, and a set of values that resonates loudly, both within the organization and externally with customers.
A happy workforce is a productive workforce – and fostering an environment of opportunity and creativity, diversity and inclusion, collaboration and flexibility, fun and reward, will all contribute to a highly impactful mission and culture.
It’s how you drive the bus (act upon your culture) that really counts though:
The Big IDEA
I = Inspire
- Create an environment of excitement, passion and possibility.
- Get everyone fired up, every day, if you want to see their best work.
- Inspiration fuels creativity, productivity and urgency (hence results).
“Passion is the genesis of genius.” –Tony Robbins
D = Develop
- Equip your team with the tools they need to be productive.
- Invest heavily in continual learning to see everyone flourish in their roles.
- Champion each team members career goals with programs to enrich their employee experience and satisfy their need for professional stimulation and advancement.
“You don’t build a business, you build people, then people build the business.” -Zig Ziglar
E = Empower
- Trust the people you carefully hired by getting out of the way.
- Clear a path for them to contribute and excel – and become the best versions of themselves.
- Foster a culture of ideation, collaboration, and inclusion where everyone has a seat at the table.
“It doesn’t make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.” –Steve Jobs
A = Appreciate
- Appreciation is the icing on top of compensation and the oxygen that keeps a positive culture fresh and invigorating.
- Look for ways to celebrate team wins, recognize individual milestones, congratulate and reward outstanding effort and results.
- Make it programmatic, consistent and unilateral.
“The greatest good you can do for another is not to share your riches, but to reveal theirs.” – Benjamin Disraeli
Conclusion
Execute consistently on The Big IDEA:
- To have a happy, motivated workforce, embracing a culture that delivers results.
- To attract and retain the quality of talent you desire and deserve.
- To fully realize the vision, mission, and purpose at the core of the company you serve.
